Our dinner at the Ancient Raj concluded another term of debating here at Kent. We’ve debated a wide range of topic from Interventionism in the Middle East to EU Withdrawal, we’ve held a pilot for our own radio show, and sent teams to national Inter-Varsity competitions.
So, as we approach Kent Debating’s second birthday, it gives me great pleasure to see how we’ve invigorated a debating community and spirit here at Kent. In a sense, I feel that we’ve managed to neatly fill an extra-curricular and academic space that the University of Kent had been lacking until recently.
Nonetheless, there is still a great deal of potential that the Kent Debating Society can fulfil, and it’s up to the new committee to try and achieve this. I believe that, among other things, increased society collaboration, a wider membership base, more guest speakers at debates and even more competition attendance will better the society, and so these are just a few of the things we’ll be trying to achieve over the next 12 months.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that attended and spoke at our events as it has been an absolute pleasure meeting, bantering, and debating with you all. All the best to those of you who have spent your final years’ Wednesdays debating with us.
So, Happy Easter on behalf of the KDS, and I look forward to seeing you over the next year!
